Course Description: Mathematics for Primary 3
Welcome to the exciting world of Mathematics for Primary 3! This online course is designed to provide a comprehensive exploration of fundamental mathematical concepts, focusing on the theme of “Number and Numeration” with a specific emphasis on “Whole Numbers.”
First Term: Number and Numeration – Whole Numbers In the first term, students will delve into the realm of whole numbers up to 999. This includes honing skills in correct counting, grouping numbers into hundreds, tens, and units (HTU), and mastering counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s. Participants will also explore the intriguing world of odd and even numbers. The curriculum progresses to understanding inequalities, ordering numbers, and working with fractions. Emphasis will be placed on fractions such as 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5, and 1/6, as well as their application in shapes and whole numbers. The concept of numerator and denominator will be thoroughly explained, followed by lessons on equivalent fractions and the ordering of fractions. Addition and subtraction of 2 and 3-digit numbers, including fractions, will be covered in depth, along with the basics of multiplication, focusing on 1-digit numbers.
Second Term: Building Mathematical Foundations In the second term, the focus shifts to division, factors of numbers, open sentences, and practical applications involving money. Students will learn to perform division without remainder and utilize the multiplication tree for long division. The curriculum will cover factors of whole numbers up to 48, identifying missing factors, and understanding the relationship between factors and multiples. Practical scenarios involving money, including addition, subtraction, and multiplication, will be explored, providing students with real-world problem-solving skills. Length and time measurements will be introduced, including the comparison of estimates and actual measurements.
Third Term: Advancing Mathematical Skills The final term of the course encompasses a wide array of topics. Students will explore the intricacies of time, including calendar reading and date interpretation. The measurement curriculum expands to weight, capacity, and symmetry. Participants will understand the units of grams and kilograms, measure liquid in liters, and identify line(s) of symmetry in various shapes. The term concludes with an introduction to pictograms, enhancing students’ ability to interpret and create visual representations of data.
